The main purpose at David Carpenter Independent Watch Servicing is to give customers the same level of care and attention as if the service was undertaken by a major watch brand using their own in-house service centre, but with a more cost effective and quicker turnaround time.
On arrival, your watch will go through a diagnostic process to ascertain condition and water resistance, so an accurate estimate can be provided to the customer. Once proceeded, the case parts will be completely removed, polished and all necessary case parts exchanged. The movement will be disassembled carefully, ensuring that each part is closely examined for damage or wear. Once ultrasonically cleaned, the movement is reassembled, lubricated and regulated.
Priding themselves on their professionalism and high standards of work, all watchmakers on site have completed the WOSTEP diploma (www.wostep.ch/en) and ensure that all watches are thoroughly tested and undergo a strict, quality control process with the standards, care and professionalism that you would expect from a specialist watchmaker.
David Carpenter’s watchmaking career began after leaving Portsmouth University in 2006, when he was employed at Breitling UK. He started out in the Breitling Service Centre polishing room, where he learnt how to re-finish the most intricate & complex watch cases & bracelets. He spent a year in that department before being selected to attend the British School of Watchmaking in Manchester.
Studying at the British School of Watchmaking, David completed the 3000 hour W.O.S.T.E.P (Watches of Switzerland Training and Educational Program).
After completing the W.O.S.T.E.P program, David was given a role in the Breitling UK after-sales workshop where he worked through the technical exams until he had achieved the highest possible level in the UK. From 2012-2014, David was held the Workshop Manager position, where he was responsible for the entire technical team consisting of over 40 members of staff.
David had always wanted to start his own repair business and ever since the business first launched in 2015, it has grown from strength to strength and now boasts an attractive shop front in the historical high street of East Grinstead. The state of the art, modern workshop has so far received professional certification from several luxury brands.
“The watchmakers at David Carpenter Independent Watch Servicing have an abundance of experience across all luxury brands including Rolex, Cartier and Audemars Piguet, meaning we can deliver the best possible quality and efficient service for your timepiece.” Says David.
